Spring 2008: Alumni volunteers needed for some exciting events

Get off of the sidelines and join the team! The UAA Alumni Association needs volunteers for upcoming events and projects from April through July. Read to elementary school students about college and talk about what they want to be when they grow up, be a part of the biggest celebration of the year, "Commencement 2008," or help plan the Alumni Association's annual membership meeting and networking social.

Whether you have just a couple of hours to give, or like working on a project from start to finish, there are opportunities for you to get involved and join our team! Visit www.uaaalumni.org for information including dates and times of when and where you can help today.

May 1 and 2
Anchorage Elementary Schools

UAA alumni are needed to read to classes of second graders and host discussion afterwards. Afterwards, the children draw and color pictures of what they want to be, which are postcards that will be mailed back to them in sixth grade. If you are interested in reading or assisting the reader with the activity in the classroom contact Mike Earnest snwme@email.alaska or Kim Eames snkke@email.alaska.edu. Volunteers are needed for Willow Crest (Thursday, May 1 - 12-2:30 p.m.), Muldoon (Thursday, May 1 - after 1:30 p.m.) and Mountain View (TBA). The project from last year was recently highlighted in the UA President's 2007 Report which is available to read at www.alaska.edu/pres.

Commencement 2008
There are all sorts of opportunities to get involved in Commencement -- all you have to do is pick which works for you. Come be a part of one of the biggest celebrations in Anchorage as more than 2,000 students become UAA alumni! Contact Stacey Marsh at stacey@uaaalumni.org.

Annual Membership Meeting
Planners needed for the UAA Alumni Association Annual Membership Meeting/Summer Kick-off Social Networking Event. Live music, BBQ, sunshine, fresh air and UAA Alumni packing the patio at Bernie's Bungalow for a great time. We are looking for alumni and friends to help plan this year's event.
