Important campus telephone changes

UAA's Anchorage campus telephone system now supports advanced e-911 service. Emergency calls placed from any phone on the Anchorage campus, Aviation Complex, Diplomacy Building, Bragaw Office Building or the University Center will be immediately routed to APD's Emergency Dispatch Center with information showing specific location (room, floor and street address). The new system will also provide emergency call information to UAA's University Police Department (UPD) simultaneously. This service has been in operation since January of this year.

The following change will require Customer Attention. In the past, customers dialing phone numbers outside of the Anchorage campus dialed "9" followed by the number. With the implementation of the new e-911 system, potential misdialing can take place which will result in erroneous calls being placed to APD's Emergency Dispatch Center. The solution is to change "Dial-9" to "Dial-8" when making off-campus calls.

On June 1, "Dial-9" on the Anchorage campus will be removed and will no longer initiate off-campus calling. Customers will be required to "Dial-8" when making off-campus calls. To make the transition from "Dial-9" to "Dial-8" smoother, both are currently operational. That is, customers can make calls now using "Dial-8" instead of "Dial-9". This will remain in effect through June 1 to help customers become acquainted with the new way of making off-campus calls.
