June 4, 2008: UAA Student Activities co-sponsors Michael Patrick MacDonald lecture tonight

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Michael Patrick MacDonald UAA Student Activities and the Irish Club of Alaska present Michael Patrick MacDonald for a free lecture tonight (June 4) at 7:30 p.m. in the UAA Fine Arts Building, room 150.

Michael Patrick MacDonald is an Irish American who came of age in the midst of violence, the Irish mafia, drugs, alcohol and poverty in the Irish ghetto of South Boston. His love of music and a trip to Ireland helped him gain perspective and survive.

"Many of us like to say that rock and roll saved our lives. In Michael Patrick MacDonald's case, the common hyperbole may be simple truth." -- Boston Phoenix

Author of All Souls, a painful memoir of growing up in South Boston, and Easter Rising, the story of how MacDonald survived that life through his heritage and music, his lecture promises to be powerful and inspiring.
