Changes with the American Russian Center

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Last year UAA announced its new Strategic Plan (UAA 2017); a strategic priority in this plan states that we will, "Organize and expand our internationalization and inter-cultural programs to prepare our students to think, work, and serve in a world being transformed by integration and globalization." The first significant move towards this goal was the appointment of Ted Kassier to the position of Director of International Affairs last spring. UAA is already forming new international partnerships with nations such as China and Korea, and are strengthening existing international relationships.

In an effort to continue to enhance our international efforts--and in response to significant changes in federal funding--UAA will be revising its organizational and personnel infrastructure in relation to international support programs and international affairs.

Last February the American Russian Center assumed the additional title of Office of International Support; in the coming weeks another change will take place with the American Russian Center in its current staff structure. Dr. Kassier will be making specific recommendations to the Chancellor's Cabinet regarding the new direction of UAA's international affairs and programming. He will also oversee the American Russian Center staffing transition.

UAA is committed to continued growth in our international affairs. Should you have any concerns regarding the current changes and future direction of our international efforts, please direct them to Dr. Ted Kassier at aftlk@uaa.alaska.edu.
