Fall 2008: Evacuation drills this week

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The office of Emergency Preparedness will be conducting evacuation drills in all academic buildings September 15-19. In addition to ensuring that fire systems and hardware are working properly, the drills will also assess speedy and safe occupant evacuation. Educational fliers will be distributed after each drill, as people are allowed to return to the facility. Remember that warning strobe lights and horns could signal a true emergency, so leave the building quickly using the nearest exit. Building Managers, instructors and supervisors should help ensure that everyone evacuates to a rally point at least 50 feet from the building. Occupants in wheelchairs should to go the stairwell landing of their floor, and designate someone to alert officials of their location.
