The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking actors for its upcoming production, "The Women of...".

2,500 years ago Euripides criticized war and its effect on women in "The Trojan Women." David Edgecombe adapts Euripides' classic play placing it in a modern context. Using speech, movement and music, this performance explores the emotional consequences of those in combat and the victims of conflicts. "The Women of..." is a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the sacrifice of women on the home front.

The play offers many excellent roles. Director David Edgecombe is looking for eight to 10 women, three men and one child (able to play a boy 5 to 8 years old). All will be speaking roles.

For its productions, UAA Theatre casts students and community actors and encourages the participation of all minorities. For this unusual theatre project, the cast will be asked to contribute. All those interested in auditioning need to write or find 12 lines or more about one woman's response to war. This is your time to be creative. Tell your story, a relative's story or a story you have heard. If you are unable to generate a personal narrative, please come anyway.

To audition, sign up in the Fine Arts Office (Fine Arts Building 302) or call (907) 786-1792 to reserve one of the posted audition times. Individual auditions can be arranged if actors are not able to attend the posted times. Speeches for reading will be available at the auditions. Partial scripts are available in the Fine Arts Office for a two-day check-out with $10 cash deposit.

The production opens February 13, and will run for three weekends. Rehearsals start in the Spring 2009 semester.
