Fall 2008: UAA Wind Ensemble to perform 'Black Dog'

The UAA Wind Ensemble will perform at various locations in Anchorage and Kenai this week.

The program will include Sousa's "Pride of the Wolverines," "Blues for a Killed Cat" by Jack End, Copland's "Outdoor Overture," and the concerto "Black Dog" by Scott McAllister. The conductor for the Wind Ensemble this fall is Tai Wai Li, conductor of the Anchorage Civic Orchestra and UAA University Singers.

"Black Dog" is based on the Led Zepplin tune of the same name. In this concerto the clarinetist (Mark Wolbers) performs the role of the lead guitar player, complete with sound distortions, vibrato and riffs.

The performance schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m., Dimond High School
Thursday, Nov. 13, 7 p.m., Begich Middle School
Friday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m., Mirror Lake Middle School
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m., West High School
