Biology Dept. offers Friday talk: "Seeing the Forest: the social ecology of human health in the circumpolar north

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Friday, March 20, 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Social Sciences Building (SSB), Room 119

Dr. David Driscoll, associate professor and director of the Institute for Circumpolar Health Studies at UAA will present "Seeing the Forest: the social ecology of human health in the circumpolar north."

Public health scientists have demonstrated significant associations between social and environmental factors and various measures of population morbidity and mortality. Many of the primary causes of mortality among Alaska residents are associated with contextual factors found throughout the circumpolar north. This presentation describes the social epidemiological and population health approaches to public health science, and applies work done in Canada, Denmark, Russia, and Sweden to suggest a strategic agenda for promoting health in the Alaska population.

For our off-campus guests, please note that parking on the UAA campus is free of charge on Fridays.
No-host refreshments will be provided for which your contributions are greatly appreciated.
