Call for student applications for work related to Canadian issues

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Deadline to apply: Extended to Friday, March 20

In 2004, the University of Alaska Anchorage announced the creation of the Elizabeth Tower Endowment for Canadian Studies. The goal of this endowment is to increase the visibility of Canadian studies at UAA and in the community and to improve opportunities for UAA students wanting to study in Canada.

This year the endowment committee has dedicated up to $1,500 to support Canadian research or study in or about Canada. Potential activities may include, but are not limited to, attending a Canadian or Canada Studies conference, traveling in Canada, or organizing a Canadian event at UAA. These funds will be made available on a case-by-case basis to students who have demonstrated an interest in Canada.

If you are interested in applying for funding, please write a letter to the members of Elizabeth Tower Endowment Committee stating your name and grade point average, describing the nature of the project you wish to pursue,
and explaining why you believe the committee should fund your studies. Your letter should be accompanied by a letter of reference from a professor who can speak to your interests in studying in Canada. Recipients will be asked to report on their activities in a public forum.

If you are interested in applying for funding, please write a letter to the members of Elizabeth Tower Endowment Committee stating your name, department, and position at UAA.  Please also provide:

A description of your interest in Canadian Studies.
Explanation of the nature of the project you wish to pursue.
Estimated budget.
Explanation of how this project will advance the study of Canada and Canadian Studies at UAA.

Electronic submissions are encouraged.  The application must be received by March 20, 2009.
