Carol Swartz, director of UAA's Kenai Peninsula College Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer, recently earned a Women of Distinction honor. Winners of the 5th Annual Women of Distinction Awards were announced on Friday, March 27. The event was held in March in celebration of Women's History Month.

The South Peninsula Haven House initiated the awards program in 2005 to honor women who have contributed to the health and well-being of the Kachemak Bay community. Swartz's many contributions to the community include helping to develop Homer Community Mental Health Services, serving as a founding trustee of the Homer Community Foundation, contributing to the success of the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference and her position on the Board of the Susitna Council of Girl Scouts. Read about her and the honor in an article in the Homer Tribune.
