UAA to launch new logo standards

by Kathleen McCoy  |

This past year, University Advancement has been working hard on standardizing logos in order to create a clear, effective and powerful branding effort for the University of Alaska Anchorage. After consultations with the Chancellor's Cabinet and UAA academic deans, we have landed on new logo standards that will be rolled out in the next couple of months. We are currently meeting with governance groups to share information on the new standards. By July 1, a new Web page will be launched to serve as a logo standard resource for the UAA Anchorage campus community. General Support Services (GSS) will have new templates for stationery and business card orders in July as well.

The main UAA swoosh design and campus signs will not be affected. What will change in the coming months will be the following things:

  • UAA business cards
  • UAA stationery
  • UAA envelopes
  • existing logos for UAA's  departments and programs
  • existing logos for UAA's schools, colleges, institutes and centers

We've also tweaked the green and gold UAA colors so they will appear more vibrant on printed materials. Specs for the new colors, as well as additional information about the new logos, will be available soon. In the meantime, please plan for beautiful new stationery and business cards this summer!

FAQ:

What do I do with the current stock of stationery, envelopes and business cards I have?
We don't expect you to throw out your current stock. When you exhaust the materials you have, the new logo standards will be incorporated into your next order with GSS.

Can I continue to use my own (department, program, etc) logo after July 1?
In trying to come up with the best compromise for existing logos, while still moving forward with a unified look for branding UAA, we have come up with the following guidelines.

Individual pictorial logos will be integrated into the new system for the following entities:

  • Colleges and schools for which there is a dean.
  • Institutes and centers (ISER, ENRI, etc)
  • Programs of distinction (defined as programs that began at UAA or that are unique to UAA. Examples include ANSEP, ANPSYCH, RRANN).

If you have a question as to whether or not your program falls into this category, please contact Kristin DeSmith at x61263, or afkad@uaa.alaska.edu.

All other academic departments/programs and administrative units will have a text logo that will look similar to this:

Will the new stationery be available in electronic form for e-mails and other electronic communications?
Yes!

Will I be able to go to a Web site to find out how to use the logo?
Yes! After July 1, 2009 you will be able to find all kinds of good information on the new logos on Advancement's Web site.

For additional information, or to ask a question about the forthcoming logos, please contact Kristin DeSmith at afkad@uaa.alaska.edu.
