August 2009: Conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg will speak on turmoil in the media

UAA Student Activities and The Northern Light, with support from The Alaska Press Club, present National Review online editor and syndicated conservative columnist Jonah Goldberg at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium this evening, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. New York Times #1 bestselling author and columnist Jonah Goldberg's topic is "The Media is Dead, Long Live the Media."

The evening talk, which celebrates The Northern Light's 21st anniversary and Constitution Week, is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact (907) 786-1219.

On Friday
From the North, the KRUA, 88.1FM public affairs program, will feature excerpts from a Q and A session with Jonah Goldberg and participants from UAA journalism programs and local media. The one-hour session will be recorded before the evening talk; excerpts will air at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 on KRUA, along with student reaction to Goldberg's evening talk.

The Q and A panelists include Suzanna Caldwell, executive editor of The Northern Light; Hannah Colver, public affairs producer for KRUA, Fred Pearce, Chair of the Journalism and Public Communications Dept., Matt Zencey, editorial page editor for the Anchorage Daily News, which runs Goldberg's column periodically on its Op-ed pages; and independent journalist Amanda Coyne, frequently appearing in Alaska Dispatch. This panel was facilitated by the Alaska Press Club to further discussion on changing media. The full discussion will be posted on the Alaska Press Club site afterwards.
