The UAA Concert Board is proud to present the 16th Annual A Cappella Festivella featuring Sweet Honey in the Rock on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium.

Sweet Honey in the Rock is an internationally renowned a cappella ensemble formed by Bernice Johnson Regon in 1973 at the D.C. Black Repertory Theater Company. The ensemble has been a vital and innovative presence in the music culture of Washington D.C. and in communities of conscience around the world.

Rooted in a deeply held commitment to create music out of the rich textures of African American legacy and traditions, Sweet Honey in the Rock possesses a stunning vocal prowess that captures the complex sounds of Blues, spirituals, traditional gospel hymns, rap, reggae, African chants, Hip Hop, ancient lullabies and jazz improvisation. Sweet Honey's collective voice, occasionally accompanied by hand percussion instruments, produces a sound filled with soulful harmonies and intricate rhythms.

The 2009 season finds Sweet Honey celebrating its 35th birthday.

Tickets are $25 adv/ $30 door for the general public, $15 for youth (17 and under) and $5 adv/ $10 door for UAA students.
