USUAA invites student testimony on proposed tuition increases for AY2012

When the Board of Regents meets on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 24-25, it will consider approval of tuition rates for AY2012.

In September 2008, the board approved for AY2011 a four percent tuition increase for 100 to 200 level courses and a seven percent increase for 300 to 400 level courses.

This year, President Hamilton recommended continuing that strategy, which offers some relief to students enrolled in 100 to 200 level coursework, yet continues to provide revenues to meet university obligations. Therefore, a five percent tuition increase for 100 to 200 level courses and a 10 percent tuition increase for 300 to 400 level courses in AY2012 (fall 2011, spring 2012) is proposed.

The net result is an average tuition rate increase of seven percent, which continues the trend of moderating increases to students while generating a portion of the revenues necessary to fund academic programs within the 16-campus system.
