'Tale of Genji' events begin Nov. 6

Illustrations from the Tale of Genji will be on display from Friday, Oct. 23 through Monday, Jan. 4 in the arc gallery on the first floor of the UAA/APU Consortium Library.

This is an exhibition of imagery related to the first novel, written in 1008 in Heian Era Japan by Lady Murasaki. A reception at the arc gallery will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, at 5:15 p.m.

The following events are also planned around this exhibit:

Friday, Nov. 6, at 4:30 p.m. in UAA/APU Consortium Library, Dr. Hiroko Harada will discuss the Tale of Genji: Beyond 1000 Years. At 6:30 p.m. that evening, there will be a screening of Tale of Genji (anime version with English captions), again in the UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307.

On Friday, Nov. 13, Dr. Paul Dunscombe will discuss The World of the Shining Prince at 4:30 p.m. in UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307. Dr. Charles E. Licka will follow with a discussion on The Tale of Genji: Its Artistic and Interactive Implications, again in UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307. A screening of The Tale of Genji: The Illustrated Scroll will follow at 6 p.m. in UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307.
