Chancellor Fran Ulmer's Button Blanket/Robe now on display in Student Union

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Chancellor Ulmer has placed her Button Blanket/Robe in the Student Union display case for the month of November. Of her blanket, Chancellor Ulmer said:

"Eleven years ago I was adopted into the Kaagwaantaan Clan of the Wolf House. I was given the name Kindzéi. I am an eagle so you will see both an eagle and wolf on the Button Blanket/Robe. Agnes Thlunaut Bellinger, a revered Tlingit elder from Haines and Juneau, was my sponsor and my mentor; she shared her culture with me through stories, dance, song and example. I was deeply honored and feel fortunate to have Alaska Native culture bearers as friends and teachers."
