The Biology Dept. offers Dr. Ian M Dutton, president and CEO of the Alaska SeaLife Center from 3:30-4:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 in CPISB, Room 120.

Dr. Dutton joined the SeaLife Center in December 2008 after working in conservation and academia throughout the Asia-Pacific region for more than 25 years. He is a geographer with research interests in climate change adaptation, marine conservation, environmental planning and performance measurement and integrating social science with ecology.

Dr. Dutton will speak on "Alaska SeaLife Center: Research directions and opportunities for collaboration." The Alaska SeaLife Center is the world's northern-most research aquarium, with a wide array of laboratory and live animal care infrastructure and a talented and diverse staff of scientists, educators and technicians. The Center attracts thousands of visitors per year and hosts a wide range of formal and informal education activities. Over the past decade, the center has built a world-class reputation for marine mammal and seabird research and is now evaluating research priorities for the period 2010-2020. How might we work more closely with UAA?

Parking is free on the UAA campus on Fridays. No-host refreshments will be provided.
