At the end of each semester, the UAA School of Engineering hosts its Student Design Competition, where mechanical, electrical and civil engineering students showcase the results of their hard work throughout the semester.

Several innovative projects will be on display at the Fall '09 Student Design Competition this Friday, Dec. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The competition will be held in the Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program building on UAA's campus.

Designs on display will include a mechanical hand made out of balsa wood, a spinal rod bender, an improved handicapped door opener and Rube Goldberg machines, among others.

Each member of the winning team will earn a 12-credit scholarship, while each member of the second-place team will earn a 6-credit scholarship. Also, the faculty member associated with the winning team will win a cash prize.
