The Alaska Center for the Book (ACB) recently announced that Carol Swartz, director of the Kenai Peninsula College Kachemak Bay Campus, is the recipient of a 2009 Contributions to Literacy in Alaska (CLIA) award for her work in establishing the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference.

ACB adds Swartz's accomplishments to those of other Alaskans who have been recognized as CLIA award winners since 1993. Swartz is one of four winners selected to receive the 2009 award.

The Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference is held each June in Homer, Alaska. This nationally recognized writing conference features workshops, readings and panel presentations in fiction, poetry, nonfiction and the business of writing. The 2010 conference will feature 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham as its keynote speaker.
