Jan. 22, 2010: Deadline for NCSA faculty applications to teach abroad in 2011-12

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Deadline: 5 p.m. Today

Join UAA colleagues who have been enriched by their previous Northwest Council on Study Abroad (NCSA) teaching experiences abroad, including most recently: Dr. David Edgecombe, Theater (Athens), and Dr. Cheryl Mann, Human Services (London) and doing a second stint with NCSA, Dr. Frank von Hippel, Biological Sciences (Rosario in spring 2011). Faculty positions are for a single academic term at one of the following sites: Rosario, Argentina; Vienna, Austria; London, England; Angers, France; Athens, Greece; Macerata or Siena, Italy; Oviedo, Spain, or Morelia, Mexico.

NCSA faculty come from a variety of disciplines, including those outside of the humanities. Applicants propose two courses in their academic fields designed for students from diverse backgrounds who may not have had prior course work in the faculty member's discipline. Proposed courses should complement courses taught by NCSA faculty on site. Selection of faculty relies heavily on the quality, feasibility, potential student interest and site-specific relevance of the courses proposed.

Additionally, a strong proposal illustrates an innovative use of the program site within the course(s). NCSA pays an adjunct replacement fee to UAA when faculty teach abroad. For further information, please contact Dr. Theodore L. Kassier, Director of International Affairs at (907) 786-7773 or aftlk@uaa.alaska.edu or Leslie Tuovinen, International Affairs Coordinator at anlat@uaa.alaska.edu or (907) 786-4135.

Application materials are available in electronic format from Leslie Tuovinen. Department chair and dean's approval is required. Applications (one electronic copy and one hard copy) are due in the Office of International Affairs by 5 p.m., Jan. 22.
