Spring 2010: Cabin Fever Debates host semifinal round

The teams advancing to the semifinals of the Cabin Fever Debates have been determined. On Feb. 23, rounds seven and eight of the competition were held. In Round 7, "Team Yellow Yellow" of Adrian Schnyder (sophomore, international studies) and PJ Fanco (freshman, undeclared) prevailed, earning an automatic bid to the semifinal round on March 2. Joining "Team Yellow Yellow" in the semifinal will be the winners of Round 8, team "your friends, the cosmonauts" of Jonathan Stinson (freshman, political science) and Matthew Stinson (freshman, history).

The Seawolf Debate Team is proud to sponsor the semifinal rounds on March 2 at 7 and 8:30 p.m. in SSB 118. The first debate will address the motion "Anchorage should bid to host the 2022 Olympics." Defending the motion in the role of 1st Proposition will be the team "your friends, the cosmonauts" of Stinson and Stinson. Closing the debate for the proposition will be "Team Yellow Yellow" of Schnyder and Franco. Opening the opposition debate will be "Team Slaymaker" of Clayton Dale (sophomore, sociology) and Adriene Slaymaker (junior, philosophy).  The 2nd Opposition team will be team "Dick Cheney is my hero" of Jason Cline (senior, economics) and Ryan McKee (junior, political science).

The second semifinal will feature the teams of: 1st Proposition "Instramentals" of Danielle Brusven (sophomore, psychology) and Kelsey Waldorf (freshman, justice); 1st Opposition "Team Doofkin" of Brittany Bennett (sophomore, chemistry) and Leland Miller (junior, chemistry); 2nd Proposition team "Arbitrary" of Catherine Helle (sophomore, English) and Peter Finn (senior, economics); and 2nd Opposition "The Mount Baldy Ski Team" of Christopher Dunaway (senior, psychology) and John Dunaway (senior, mathematics). They will be debating the motion, "The State of California should legalize marijuana" at 8:30 p.m.

The top two teams from each semifinal debate will advance to the Championship Round on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. The top four teams will debate the motion: "The University of Alaska should permit individuals to carry guns on campus."
