Feb. 13, 2010: Make your own genetic jewelry for Valentine's Day gift-giving

Saturday, Feb. 13, 11:30 a.m-2:30 p.m.

Allied Health Sciences Building (AHS), Rooms 108 and 208

The Quality Healthcare Alliance club invites you to participate in a fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 13. Give the gift of you. Come spend an hour in UAA's medical laboratory making your own genetic jewelry. Turn your DNA into art.

Extract your DNA from a simple cheek swab, and capture it in a heart-shaped glass vial necklace. This is a permanent keepsake of your DNA to give to a family member or loved one, or keep close to your heart.

Like candy?  Like science? Learn about chromosomes, and make your own edible candy karyotype.

It's an hour of science, art and fun. The cost is only $10 per participant. Space is limited in our laboratory, so call 242-STAT (242-7828) or e-mail genesinabottle@gmail.com to reserve a time.

All proceeds go toward the UAA Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School. For more information, visit our Web site or e-mail Shannon Billings at assw16@uaa.alaska.edu.
