Letter to students from Chancellor Fran Ulmer

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Dear UAA students,

I'd like to encourage you to attend a unique student forum with Governor Parnell this Friday, March 19 at 1:30 p.m. in UAA's Student Union lounge. We are so pleased that the Governor is sharing his time with us. This is an excellent opportunity for you to meet with one of our state's leaders and personally ask questions about current proposed legislation.

Two issues being discussed during this Legislative session -- the Governor's Performance Scholarship and a comprehensive domestic violence initiative -- will be the focus of this forum. A question and answer session will follow a brief introduction by the Governor.

Your voice is important; I'd like to encourage you to join in the conversation.

Sincerely,

Fran Ulmer
Chancellor

P.S. There are two on-campus events scheduled for April that address one of the issues that Governor Parnell will discuss, domestic and sexual violence. Please mark your calendars:

  • Sex Signals, Monday, April 5, 7:30 p.m., Wendy Williamson. A provocative look at dating, sex and the core issue of consent. Through improvisation and audience interaction, the play explores how social pressures, unrealistic fantasies, power inequity, and false preconceptions of the other sex all contribute to the tensions
  • UAA Domestic Violence Panel Discussion, Wednesday, April 7, noon, the Student Union Den. Honorable Judge Karen Hunt will moderate a discussion panel consisting of UAA faculty, staff, students and local community professionals.
