Winners announced: April 22, Earth Day

Electricity meters were read at the Residence Halls on March 15, 2010, but not for billing purposes. The halls are currently competing to see who can use the least electricity between March 15 and April 15. The Sustainability Collateral, a group of Resident Advisors, is sponsoring the competition in collaboration with the UAA Office of Sustainability. Winners of the competition will be announced April 22, Earth Day, and prizes will be awarded.

How can you reduce your electricity usage?

  • Turn off lights when you leave your room.

  • Plug your computer and other electronics into a surge protector and turn off the surge protector when you leave or when you go to sleep.

  • Your screen saver uses as much electricity as just leaving your computer running -- disable your screen saver (have your monitor go black).
  • Trade out your incandescent bulb for a compact florescent light (CFL). See the RA Sustainability Collateral for a free CFL.
