Spring 2010: Students make second attempt at Juneau advocacy trip

Scholarships still dominate discussion

The Juneau Advocacy Team will reattempt their Juneau trip on Tuesday, March 9 to accomplish their original mission of advocating for UAA students and urging passage of a needs-based scholarship plan. Meetings with several key legislators have already been scheduled in Alaska's state capital. Nine students will be representing UAA on this trip and will work with five University of Alaska Fairbanks students in advocacy efforts.

During the original trip, planned from Feb.19-23, four separate attempts were made to fly to Juneau. The Advocacy Team made detours to Cordova, Yakutat, Sitka, and all the way to Seattle, WA. "I am really excited to go to Juneau a second time in order to advance scholarship plans," says USUAA Speaker of the Assembly Ryan Buchholdt, "...passage of this legislation will make college more affordable for thousands of Alaskans."
