Brain Fagan presents his latest book, 'Cro-Magnon,' at UAA Campus Bookstore on March 25, 2010

Thursday, March 25, 1-3 p.m.
UAA Campus Bookstore

Here's a taste of what you'll hear at Brian Fagan's presentation on his latest book, Cro-Magnon:

"They survived by their wits in a snow-bound world -- hunting, and sometimes being hunted by, animals many times their size. By flickering firelight, they drew bison, deer, and mammoths on cavern walls -- vibrant images that seize our imaginations after thirty thousand years.  They are known to archaeologists as the Cro-Magnons -- but who were they?

Simply put, these people were among the first anatomically modern humans.  For millennium, their hunter-gatherer culture flourished in small pockets across Ice Age Europe, the distant forerunner to the civilization we live in now. Cro-Magnons were us."

Don't miss this opportunity to hear an extraordinary anthropologist and archaeologist discuss Cro-Magnon. Brian Fagan's visit is sponsored by the Alaska Anthropological Association and the UAA Anthropology Department.

Note: Brian Fagan also will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25 at the UAA Wendy Williamson Auditorium.
