UAA student leaders continue to urge support from legislators since their successful advocating efforts in Juneau

University of Alaska Anchorage students will participate in a second Scholars for Dollars event to urge legislators to support the passage of the Governor's Scholarship Plan. The event takes place Thursday, March 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the USUAA Office located in Student Union Room 201. Participants can enjoy Moose's Tooth pizza, make phone calls and send e-mails to legislative offices.

By hosting a second Scholars For Dollars event, USUAA hopes to reiterate a positive message by reassuring reluctant legislators that the scholarship is not a cost but an investment in the future of our state.

USUAA hosted the first Scholars For Dollars event the day before a 14-student advocacy team traveled to Juneau to meet with legislators to advocate for similar scholarship issues. Student Government's goal for the second "Scholars For Dollars" event is to have the scholarship legislation be heard in the House Finance Committee as soon as possible. Alaska's Legislative Session ends April 18, leaving only 27 days to get Alaska's student's voices heard. All efforts are needed more than ever.
