UAA has posted the first Meet the Professor video on Facebook

by Kathleen McCoy  |

You are invited to learn about the work being done at UAA. The first participating professor, Frank von Hippel, is studying the connection between reproductive diseases worldwide and endocrine-disrupting contaminants in our environment. With a new NIH-funded RO1 grant, he and three other scientists are looking for connections between the way human hormone disruption parallels the disruption they see in stickleback fish. These fish have hormone systems like ours, and the fact that they've been turning into hermaphrodites - that's right - male and female genitalia in the same fish, is cause for significant alarm and study.

In the video Dr. von Hippel will outline his research and explain why you might care. He'll answer any questions you post in the comment section in a second video.
