Another Seawolf goes pro

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Alaska Anchorage senior Nils Backstrom became the fifth Seawolf to go pro following the conclusion of the 2009-10 hockey season as he signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Alaska Aces, the club announced on Monday.

Backstrom, who was originally a ninth-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2004 NHL Draft, registered 6-18-24 totals throughout his career with UAA. As the Stockholm, Sweden native continues his hockey career in Anchorage he will likely face his old teammate Trevor Hunt, who dresses for the Stockton Thunder and Alaska Fairbanks' Dustin Molle and Brandon Knelsen, who play for the Idaho Steelheads.
