Informational meeting for the Girdwood Renewable Energy Research and Discovery Center set for April 8, 2010

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Thursday, April 8, 7-9 p.m.

Girdwood Community Center, 250 Egloff Drive, Girdwood

The University of Alaska Anchorage is further developing plans for the Girdwood Renewable Energy Research and Discovery Center in Girdwood. The Center -- currently in the conceptual design stage -- will focus on expanding the use of renewable energy and sustainable technologies in Alaska through collaboration with public and commercial partners.

Another project showcasing sustainable technologies is the development of Alyeska Creek Hydroelectric Power. This effort is being advanced by Alyeska Resort LLC, in collaboration with UAA's School of Engineering.

The involvement of the community in both projects is vital and welcome. The design and study of these projects is currently being advanced largely through the efforts of UAA civil engineering students, who will present their work this Thursday at a public meeting.

UAA invites the public to attend this informational meeting to learn about the projects and share thoughts. Refreshments will be provided. Learn more about the Girdwood Renewable Energy Research and Discovery Center at http://www.engr.uaa.alaska.edu/research/Girdwood-Renewable-Energy-Project.cfm.
