The following press release came from USUAA:

Students at the University of Alaska Anchorage are combining efforts with campuses statewide to protest UA President Hamilton's proposed 22 percent tuition increase on Thursday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m. in the Student Union. Students will march from the Student Union, across campus, around 36th Avenue and end in Student Union Room 201.

Following the march, a call-in will take place allowing students to express their concerns and tell personal stories regarding tuition increases to the Board of Regents. Pizza and soda will be provided to students by USUAA Student Government in appreciation of students' participation in the protest.

"Students want to be included in the decision making process and work with the Board of Regents to solve UA's budget needs," said USUAA Government Relations Director Nick Moe.

"The student support for reasonable tuition is incredible. 1,100 members joined the Facebook fan page, UA Students and Community Leaders Against the Proposed 15 percent Tuition Increase. We expect a great student turn-out for the rally," said protest organizer Zach Liszka.

Students from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and University of Alaska Southeast will be hosting similar protests the same day and time. The protests are scheduled the same day as the Board of Regents' meeting in Dillingham where they will hear the tuition increase proposal from UA President Hamilton. The Regents make their final decision regarding the proposed tuition increase in September.
