Dr. Andrey Sorokin will speak on 'Endothelin Signaling and Hypertension-induced Nephropathy' on April 19, 2010

Monday, April 19, noon-1 p.m.

UAA/APU Consortium Library, Room 307

Dr. Andrey Sorokin is a professor of medicine/nephrology and physiology and microbiology and molecular genetics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Sorokin is a faculty candidate for the Alaska WWAMI associate/full professor of biomedical sciences position and is an Alaska INBRE faculty candidate.

Dr. Sorokin's research is focused on mechanisms of initiation and progression of proliferative glomerulonephritis. He is interested in the role of protein-protein interactions in endothelin-induced intracellular signaling pathways responsible for vasoconstrictor, hypertrophic and mitogenic actions of endothelins in kidney cells, as well as the role of apoptosis in kidney diseases.

Currently, his laboratory is elucidating the role of distinct signaling pathways in the progression of hypertension-induced nephropathy in vivo using lentivirus- and Zinc-Finger nucleases-mediated gene targeting in a well characterized rat model of salt-sensitive hypertension and glomerular disease.
