2010 Freshman Convocation and Campus Kick-Off

Freshman Convocation, sponsored by the University Honors College, formally welcomes the Class of 2014 and their families to UAA, inspiring students with a sense of discovery and creativity to last them throughout their years of study. Faculty, alumni and all incoming freshmen, along with their families, are invited to join UA's new president, Pat Gamble, and UAA's chancellor, Fran Ulmer for this ceremony acknowledging the excellent journey the freshmen are embarking on. The highlight this year is distinguished keynote speaker Dr. Patricia Kuhl, one of the world's preeminent researchers on early language and brain development and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Her work has played a major role in demonstrating how early exposure to language alters the brain. Dr. Kuhl was invited to present her research at the White House during both President Clinton and President Bush's administration. Campus Kick-Off (5 p.m.-2 a.m.) is where it all starts for new and returning students to campus in this celebration of the next academic year! Come make new connections or reconnect with old friends. Mark your calendar to join the whole UAA community as it kicks up its heels through entertainment, information sharing and revelry. The food and music are amazing, and the booths will put you in-the-know. Keep your evening clear, too, because you won't want to miss the comedy show, volleyball game or late-night party of savings at the Northern Lights Fred Meyer store. UAA students are eligible to win an Alaska Airlines ticket or a netbook at the comedy show and the volleyball game.
