Alaska writers Steve Kahn and Anne Coray will speak Oct. 13, 2010

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 5-7 p.m. UAA Campus Bookstore

Writers Anne Coray and Steve Kahn will both be at the UAA Campus Bookstore.

Steve Kahn discusses his book, The Hard Way Home: Alaska Stories of Adventure, Friendship, and the Hunt at the UAA Campus Bookstore. Anne Coray (who is married to Steve) will also present her new poetry collection, called Violet Transparent.

More on Kahn's book: "Steve Kahn's prose is as uncompromising and compelling as the Alaskan life and landscape he describes. Blood-stained and brisk one moment, reflective and reverent the next, these stories remind us of the rich" -- Karsten Heuer, author of Being Caribou

Steve Kahn is a lifelong Alaskan and former hunting guide who lives a subsistence-based lifestyle on Lake Clark near Port Alsworth, Alaska. He is a contributor to the anthologies Wild Moments: Adventures with Animals of the North and Crosscurrents North: Alaskans on the Environment.

More on Corey's book: "Violet Transparent is an exact, and exacting, map of the heart's north country, where "the snow-graced peaks reflect/ what most of us come to know:/ the best we can have is the welcome/ of looking through." Anne Coray knows such welcome, and in these poems she proves herself to be a fearless and inventive explorer of a land that most of us but glimpse in dream or from a great distance." -- Christopher Merrill

Anne Coray  is author of several collections of poetry including Bone Strings and Ivory, and is the co-editor of the anthology Crosscurrents North: Alaskans on the Environment. She is founder of Northshore Press, a small literary publishing house in rural Alaska, and has published authors from around the nation and Alaska. In 2010, she was a recipient of  the Contributions to Literacy in Alaska Awards(CLIA).

This event is free, open to the public, with free parking.  For more information, contact Rachel Epstein at (907) 786-4782.
