Cama-i Room program highlights for the week of Oct. 11-15

All events take place in the Cama-i Room in the Gorsuch Commons, unless otherwise noted. These events are free and open to the public.

The Cama-i Room is a social gathering place and study center for all UAA students. Cama-i Room programs and activities celebrate Alaska Native, Native American and Alaska cultures.

Career Services Information Table

Monday, Oct. 11, 5-7 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons Grand Hallway
Meet the Director of the Career Services Center and learn how they can support your job search.


Green & Gold Gear
Monday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 12, 5-8 p.m.

Cama-i Room

Make a green or gold fleece hat, scarf, or mittens to show your Seawolf Pride! All sewing levels welcomed and all supplies will be provided.

Athabascan Language Circle
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 8-9 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons, Cama-i Room

Join professor Roy Mitchel and other speakers and learners of the various Athabascan language dialects. All levels are welcome to attend. Meets every Tuesday.

St. Lawrence Island Dance Practice
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 7-9 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons
Join the St. Lawrence Island Dancers by watching their practice or taking part in the dances that are open to all visitors. Meets every Tuesday and Thursday.


What is Homecoming?
Wednesday, Oct. 13, 5-6 p.m.

Not sure what Homecoming is? Then stop by to learn about this tradition that is common throughout the U.S. and growing more each year at UAA.

Yupik Dancing with Ingrimuiut

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 7-9 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons, Room 107
All are invited to participate in the weekly dance group practice for Ingrimuiut: People of the Mountains. They are a Yupik dance group lead by Ossie Kairaiuak. Meets every Wednesday. Sponsored by Residence Life, ANROP, Conference Services and Parking Services.

Games, Games, Games

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 9-11 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons, Cama-i Room

Stop by to play board games, card games, video games, Alaska games and more. There will be a different focus every Wednesday.


Sharing Traditions
Thursday, Oct. 14, 6-8 p.m.

Gorsuch Commons, Cama-i Room

A new art project, artist or elder will be offered each Thursday by the Sharing Traditions host, Jayme Johnson. All are welcome to take part in the activities and meet the special guests.


St. Lawrence Island Dance Practice

Native Student Council
Every Friday, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Cama-i Room
Show your pride in Native cultures and become involved with the Alaska Native community at UAA and in Anchorage through this student club. Get involved with the Regalia Review and other activities. For further information, contact Karla Booth at (907) 751-7452.
