Daniel Paul Horn presents all-Schumann program at UAA - Nov. 12, 2010

Daniel Paul Horn presents a solo piano recital featuring the works of Robert Schumann in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. On the program:

  • The "Abegg" variations, Op. 1
  • "Humoreske," Op. 20
  • Blumenstück ("Flower Piece"), Op. 19
  • Sonata No. 1 in F-sharp Minor, Op. 11.

An active and versatile pianist, Daniel Paul Horn is Professor of piano and Chair of Keyboard Studies at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, where he has taught since 1984. In 2009, he was honored with a Senior Academic Achievement Award for sustained excellence in scholarship. He has given recitals at the American Liszt Society Festival and at numerous colleges and universities. Daniel has given a broadcast recital on the WFMT PianoForte Piano Fazioli Salon Series in Chicago and made an appearance with various Midwestern orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

An avid chamber musician, Horn regularly collaborates with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on the CSO Chamber Music Series, at Northwestern University and on WFMT broadcasts. With the MasterWorks Ensemble, he has played in Bermuda and at the 2010 Beijing Modern Music Festival; other partners include the Ying String Quartet, cellist Stephen Balderston, pianist Alexander Djordjevic and Guarneri Quartet violinist John Dalley. Horn concertizes with noted singers, including baritone Gerard Sundberg and basses Stephen Morscheck and Kenneth Cox; with soprano Carolyn Hart and mezzo-soprano Denise Gamez, he has performed vocal chamber music recitals in Chicago, New York and Paris. His work with living composers has included premieres of works by Jacob Bancks, David M. Gordon, Patrick Kavanaugh, Daniel Kellogg and Max Raimi.
