The 'Ton in Ten' peanut butter and jelly campaign goes airborne

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The Human Service Club would like to extend its gratitude to Mr. Appleton of Lowe's Home Improvement who is coordinating the air lift of peanut butter and jelly to the Emmonak Women's Shelter in Emmonak, Alaska. Through Mr. Appleton's efforts, Northern Air Cargo and Everts Air Cargo agreed to donate a total of 250 pounds of freight.

The 'Ton in Ten' peanut butter and jelly drive has started to take on a life of its own. From a humble beginning of approximately 400 pounds in 2005 in the Department of Human Services to collecting a record 2,633 pounds in 2009 by the entire UAA community and our community campus partners, this food drive continues to capture the imagination of all those who participate.

On behalf of the Human Services Club, the College of Health and Social Welfare and the entire UAA community, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Lowe's, Everts Air and Northern Air Cargo for making the 2010 'Ton in Ten' really take off.
