Student Regent and Student Commissioner candidacy packets available now; due Jan. 19, 2011

Let your voice be heard. Students have the opportunity to be UAA's nominee to the Governor for Student Regent or Student Commissioner. Now is the time to get your candidacy packets in. The deadline to turn in packets is Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Noon.

Candidacy packets for nominees for Student Regent and Student Commissioner are available to students enrolled in 12 credits or more as an undergraduate or nine credits as a graduate student. Students must be in good disciplinary standing. Applicants must also be a resident of the State of Alaska.

According to the Student Regent and Student Commissioner application, "The Student Regent serves a two‐year term beginning June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2013. The Student Regent participates in all of the duties and responsibilities of a Regent (i.e. attends all meetings of the Board and its Committees) and has full voting powers on the Board of Regents."

The candidacy packet also states, "The Student Commissioner to the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education serves a two‐year term beginning June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2013. The Student Commissioner participates in all of the duties and responsibilities assigned to Commission members."

Each campus will select two nominees for Student Regent and Student Commissioner through a special election. UAA will hold elections to select nominees Feb. 8 and Feb. 9.
