"Upon the Green," directed by Journalism and Public Communications senior Woodruff Laputka, won the 2010 Royal Television Society Award for Best Undergraduate Factual in Scotland. The documentary is about a small community of aging athletes struggling to preserve their legacy in Central Scotland. Shot over four months with a six-person crew, "Upon the Green" has been called, "an outstanding piece of work" and described as "a moving observational documentary..."

"Upon the Green" goes forward in the spring to challenge for the Royal Television Society United Kingdom award and wins an automatic place in the Celtic Media Festival.

Laputka studied at the University of Stirling during the 2009-10 year. He served as project director, photographer and editor on the film. "Upon the Green," produced for the senior Documentary Film course (the production option to writing a graduate dissertation), received the highest grade ever granted by the Stirling Film & Media department. Every year the Royal Television Society receives undergraduate work from every film program in Scotland, and selects only two for nominations in each category. The panel is made up of industry professionals from all over, while the award is based in BBC Glasgow. As best documentary in Scotland, "Upon the Green" will now be competing for best UK documentary, with the ceremony happening in London later this spring.
