Noon Music features James Dommek Jr. - March 16, 2011

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Wednesday, March 16, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Student Union Cafeteria

Dommek's thought-provoking lyrics and honest vocals, paired with sparse production, at times emit an M.Wardsian feel with a Johnny Cash delivery.

Born and raised in Kotzebue, Alaska, the 27-year-old Alaska Native (half Inupiaq Eskimo, half German/Irish) moved to Anchorage at the age of 14. Dommek started creating his musical identity as a drummer and began writing songs at 16 on acoustic guitar. After meeting Evan Phillips at an open mic, the two quickly became friends over a shared interest in Neil Young and Bob Dylan. Along with Aaron Benolkin, they went on to become founding members of the Anchorage-based rock band the Whipsaws.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Student Activities at (907) 786-1219 or e-mail events@uaa.alaska.edu.
