Volunteer on the UAA Standing Scholarship Committee

by Kathleen McCoy  |

The Office of Student Financial Assistance is looking for volunteers to serve on the UAA Standing Scholarship Committee (SSC). As a member of the SSC, you will be expected to read and score between 300 and 500 essays submitted by scholarship applicants. A general rubric will be provided to assist in assigning objective essay scores in the following five categories: leadership, extracurricular involvement, goals and plans, presentation (grammar and spelling) and other/special considerations. SSC members must return scores by 5/2/11.

Serving on a scholarship committee is an excellent opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to student success. Few committee members walk away without being touched by the myriad experiences our students live. Reading scholarship essays will remind you of just what a diverse, capable and deserving student population claims UAA, and you cannot avoid being motivated by their efforts. Take this rare opportunity to get to know our student body, understand their drive, and revel in their successes. Make their achievements vicariously yours and sign up to serve at the UAA Standing Scholarship Committee website.
