Cama-i Room program highlights for April 25-29, 2011

These events are open to the community, both on and off campus, unless otherwise noted. All events take place in the Cama-i Room, located in the Gorsuch Commons, unless otherwise noted.

In conjunction with the Department of Residence Life, the Alaska Native & Rural Outreach Program (ANROP) is proud to present upcoming program highlights. The Cama-i Room is a social gathering place and study center for all UAA students. Cama-i Room programs and activities celebrate Alaska Native, Native American and Alaska cultures. Cama-i (pronounced Cha-my) is a Yupik and Alutiiq word for "welcome" and "hello," and encompasses the spirit in which this room was created.

Fry Bread and Fry Bread Tacos
Monday, April 25, 5:30 p.m.
Come enjoy the company of others while learning how to make something new. All ingredients will be provided.

Finding Off Campus Summer and Fall Housing
Monday, April 25, 5-7 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons Grand Hallway
If you need information about finding a place to stay this summer, then this is the place to be.

Stress Releaser: GAK Making
Tuesday, April 26, 5-9 p.m.
If you need to take a break from studying for finals, stop by the Cama-i Room and de-tress by making your own fun and gooey GAK.

St. Lawrence Island Dance Practice
Tuesday, April 26, 8-9 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons
Join the St. Lawrence Island Dancers by watching or taking part in their dance practice. Open to all visitors.

Skin Care and De-stressing
Wednesday, April 27, 5-7 p.m.
Learn how to keep you skin healthy and treat yourself to some personal pampering by Rachel Long from Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Fry Bread, Dancing and a Potluck
Wednesday, April 27, 7 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons, Room 107
To say congratulations for completing another semester of class, the Yupik Dancers, St. Lawrence Island Dancers and Tsimshian dancers will perform for students. Come enjoy potluck foods, fry bread and various singing, dancing and drumming by local Alaska Native dance groups. All are welcome to take part in this event.

Just Dance I and II
Wednesday, April 27, 9-11:45 p.m.
If you've got what it takes or even if you don't, come by the Cama-i Room and watch or play Just Dance to win a gift card.

Complete that Kuspuk!
Thursday, April 28, 5-9 p.m.
Work on the kuspuk that you started this semester. Space is limited. To reserve a sewing machine, contact Karla at (907) 751-7452.

Sharing Traditions -- Open Beading and Fur Pouch Making
Thursday, April 28, 6-9 p.m.
This is the last night for Sharing Traditions. Learn how to make a fur pouch or make something uniquely beautiful with beads. Instructions on how to make a daisy chain, a flower ring, felt ornaments or bead on hide can be provided.

St. Lawrence Island Dance Practice
Thursday, April 28, 7:30-9 p.m.
Gorsuch Commons
Join the St. Lawrence Island Dancers at their last practice of the semester by watching or dancing with them. Open to all visitors.

Kuspuk Scramble: Finish it!
Friday, April 29, 5-7 p.m.
This is the last day to work on that kuspuk that you started this semester! Space is limited. To reserve a sewing machine contact Karla at (907) 751-7452.
