RE: Interim Dean Announcement, CAS

I am pleased to announce that Kim Peterson has accepted the position of interim dean for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Kim will work closely with CAS's current dean, Jim Liszka, during the next few weeks to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

Kim joined UAA in 1992 as an associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. He was promoted to full professor in 1996. Kim has served as both the associate vice provost for research and as the vice provost for research and graduate studies. Since 2007, Kim has served the associate dean for research in CAS. During his tenure at UAA, Kim helped in the planning of the ConocoPhillips Integrated Sciences Building; developed advisory councils for research, scholarship and the arts in CAS; served on the Executive Committee for the UAA Faculty Association; established UAA's Office of Sponsored Programs; was involved in fundraising for CAS; and was a co-founder of the Complex Systems Group.

Prior to coming to UAA, Kim served as an associate professor for Clemson University and as a research associate at Duke University.

Kim will serve as interim dean for approximately one fiscal year while a national search for a new CAS dean takes place. Please join us in congratulating Kim on his new role as interim dean of CAS.
