Stacie Meisner is Class of 2011 Student Commencement Speaker

Stacie Meisner is the Class of 2011 Student Commencement SpeakerUAA's Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Bruce Schultz is pleased to announce Stacie Meisner as the Class of 2011 Student Commencement Speaker. Stacie was born and raised in Gering, Nebraska and is the daughter of Jerald and Shelly Meisner. Stacie began her college career at Western Nebraska Community College but decided to move to Alaska and play volleyball for Coach Chris Green at UAA in the fall of 2008. While playing volleyball at UAA, Stacie was elected team captain and in the same year, the volleyball team won the GNAC Championship and GNAC All-Academic Team.

As a highly involved student, Stacie has been a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Board, member of Sigma Tau Delta, an English Honor Society, and is the editor of Understory, an undergraduate creative arts journal. Currently, Stacie is a tutor for reading and writing in the Learning Resource Center. She also presented at the 2011 UAA Student Showcase last week.

After graduation, Stacie will attend graduate school at UAA and work toward a master's degree in English and will be a graduate assistant for the volleyball team.

Throughout her academic career at UAA, Stacie has demonstrated her desire and passion to positively impact the campus community by becoming a leader in the classroom, as a student-athlete, club and organization member, and a student worker. As one of her recommenders stated, "Stacie demands excellence without demanding limelight. She inspires others to work hard because of her own enthusiasm." Stacie has enjoyed her time at UAA because she feels there is a strong sense of community.
