New Coalition Speaker is Nicholas Pennington from Kodiak

by Kathleen McCoy  |

Sunday, at the annual Coalition of Student Leaders Summit, the Coalition elected a new speaker, Nicholas Pennington, who is the President of the Kodiak College Student Government Association (KCSGA). Pennington has an associate of arts degree and is working on double associate degrees in accounting and in business from Kodiak College, after which he intends to join UAF to obtain a baccalaureate in political science. Pennington has been president of KCSGA and a representative to the Coalition for two years, and is entering a third term as head of both bodies.

"I am very excited to be able to work closely with Nick Pennington," said Student Regent Mari Freitag.

"Organizations are only as good as their leaders, and I am sure that with Nick at the helm, the Coalition will be the strongest it has ever been," said outgoing Coalition Speaker, Peter Finn.

The Coalition also outlined some of its priority goals and issues for this coming year, including taking a comprehensive look at academic advising, campus priorities from a student perspective, and many aspects of distance education, especially the technical aspects, to ensure that student success is not impeded by the lack of technology, or broken/outdated technology.
