After 29 years of service, Tom Miller will be retiring from UAA on June 30.

Tom MillerTom came to UAA in 1982 as a professor in Aviation Technology. During his time in Aviation, Tom served as chair of Aviation Maintenance Tech for six years. In 1997, Tom joined the Electrical Engineering faculty, and served as interim director for the School of Engineering for several months. In 2002, Tom was promoted to Assistant Provost in the Office of Academic Affairs, and later to Vice Provost. In these positions, Tom oversaw curriculum and academic policies; program assessment; institutional and program accreditation; distance education; and course and program exchanges in the Western region.

Some recent accomplishments of note include Tom's service on the Accreditation Leadership Team that guided the University's successful efforts to pilot the new institutional accreditation standards and process, and Tom's contribution to the creation of the WICHE Internet Course Exchange (ICE), which is a regional collaborative agreement that allows students from member institutions to take e-learning courses in sections that aren't full at other institutions; Tom also served as the first chair of the WICHE ICE steering committee and was instrumental in developing the process that would make the system work.

Colleagues have described Tom as engaging, positive, humble, energetic and as having a good sense of humor. An optimist who's devoted to the transformative potential of higher education, Tom and his passion for UAA will be missed.
