Banned Books Week, Sept. 24-Oct. 1

by Jamie Gonzales  |

Banned Books Week, Sept. 24-Oct. 1What do the books Call of the Wild, A Wrinkle in Time and Catch-22 all have in common? They have been the targets of censorship in libraries of all kinds. Following the events of Constitution Week, the Consortium Library is hosting activities in observance of Banned Books Week. This is a great opportunity to celebrate your freedom to read and highlight the importance of the First Amendment. We are featuring:

  • All week: A display of banned and challenged titles from the Library's collections
  • All week: Facebook and Twitter postings of first and last lines from banned classics.
  • Monday, Sept. 26, 12-3 p.m.: A Read-Out in the Library Great Room, first floor. Students, faculty and staff are invited to read a 5-minute passage from a banned or challenged title of their choice. If you'd like to participate, let us know via the online Banned Books Week Read-Out Form. We'll contact you with more details.
