Constitution Week event: 'LGBT Equality in Anchorage and the State' - Sept. 23, 2011

LGBT Equality-Panel Discussion, Sept. 23Friday, Sept. 23, 7-8:30 p.m. Student Union, North Cafeteria

Hear from those fighting for LGBT equality in the 49th state. This community panel will explore the issue of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights as it relates to the Alaska and United States Constitutions, and will feature leaders who have advocated for equal rights in front of Alaska's courts, the Anchorage Assembly and the University of Alaska Board of Regents.

The evening's panel will include:

  • Jeff Mittman, Executive Director for the ACLU of Alaska
  • Trevor Storrs, One Anchorage
  • UAA staff and students who successfully advocated for UA's Board of Regents to include "sexual orientation" in UA's non-discrimination policy.

UAA's student and community LGBT group The Family will also be present to share information about their organization.
