Anthropology Thesis Defense Oct. 28: Margaret (Peggy) Brady's 'Hmong Gardening in Anchorage, Alaska'

All are welcome to attend as Margaret (Peggy) Brady, M.A. Anthropology candidate, defends her thesis, "Hmong Gardening in Anchorage, Alaska: Cultural Continuity and Change in the Far North." Brady's study focuses on Hmong southeast Asian horticultural traditions which are continued despite Alaska's dramatically different environment. Brady's research includes formal interviews and many informal discussions with other Anchorage-based Hmong people. Her findings show that Hmong families choose to maintain traditional gardens when and if it is most beneficial to their families.
