Elizabeth Tower Public Speaker Funding for Canadian Studies, application deadline is Oct. 31, 2011

In 2004, the University of Alaska Anchorage announced the creation of the Elizabeth Tower Endowment for Canadian Studies. The goal of this endowment is to increase the visibility of Canadian studies at UAA and in the community, and to improve opportunities for UAA students wanting to study in Canada.
Award Amount: Up to $1,000
Application Deadline: Oct. 31, 2011
Activities: Awards are dedicated to supporting a public speaking engagement of interest to Canadian
Studies. The committee is particularly interested in science, political, economic,
Arctic and land claims topics. Tower Endowment funds will provide up to $1,000 in
publicity expenses, travel expenses and/or honorarium to bring a speaker to campus.
The campus event must be free and open to the public.
The Tower Endowment will consider support of speakers who have been sponsored for
speaking engagements elsewhere in Alaska and who are willing to also speak at UAA.
Applications are open to community nonprofit organizations, and individual faculty,
departments or student groups at UAA.
Application Requirements:
Letter to the members of Elizabeth Tower Endowment Committee, which must include:
- Name and UAA affiliation
- Description of the proposed speaker's topic and its significance
- Explanation of how the project will advance the study of Canada at UAA
- Estimated budget
Post-Award Report: Recipients must submit a brief written report of their activity.
Submission: Electronic submissions are encouraged.
